Thank you to everyone who has signed up to be a part of the 2004-2005 Women in Engineering Peer Mentoring Program! Letters went out during the week of August 9th to all undergraduate Mentors and Mentees indicating Mentoring Matches. If you are not currently involved in this program but are interested in becoming involved, please email wie@osu.edu with your name and email address. Peer Mentors/Mentees: If you have any difficulty getting in contact with your mentees/mentor, please inform Lauren at wie@osu.edu.
Spring Peer Mentoring Events: Peer Mentor with Professors - Foods Around the World - Join us at the North Market (59 Spruce Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215) on Tuesday, May 17th from 5pm-7pm to sample fare from around the globe! Each participant will receive a $5 gift certificate for dinner. Following dinner, we will be making gift bags for the ill patients at Children’s Hospital. Donated items (see flyer here) are requested from all participants. For those that volunteered to donate items, please remember to bring the items to the event. Participants must provide their own transportation or they can take the #2 COTA bus and get off at the Columbus Convention Center. The North Market is one block North of Nationwide Arena and one block West of the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The North Market has its own parking lot for those who will be driving. With ticket validation from vendors inside the Market, it will cost around $1 - $1.50 to park there for the event. Please see the Foods Around the world flyer here.
Winter Peer Mentoring Events: Movie Night - Take a break from studying to enjoy a movie with your mentor/mentee and professional mentors. Snacks will be served. RSVP by sending an e-mail to WiE at wie@osu.edu including your name, major, e-mail address and any special dietary needs. Stress Relief Yoga - Relieve stress before finals! WiE is bringing in a great yoga instructor to help you find some calm before the storm! Autumn Quarter Peer Mentoring Events: Peer Mentor Welcome Event and Introductions - First year students will meet their mentors for the first time before classes start. The event will be held at Raney Commons on North Campus on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 from 5:00-6:00 PM. No RSVP necessary unless you are unable to attend. Snacks will be provided at this event. Peer Mentor Dinner and Bowling with Professional Mentors - Undergraduate Mentor/Mentee pairs will meet our wonderful professional mentors for the first time at a casual dinner in the Donato's Party Room on North High Street on Thursday, October 28, 2004. After dinner, WiE will take over Columbus Square Bowling Palace for a fun evening of bowling. Dinner at Donato's is from 7:00 - 8:30 PM and bowling is from 9:00 -10:00 PM. RSVP to Lauren at wie@osu.edu by October 22nd to indicate whether or not you can drive, and if so, how many people you can take. Peer Mentor Holiday Brunch and Service Event - Enjoy brunch from 1:00 - 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 5, 2004 at Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe and participate in wrapping gifts for a family in need. Please bring wrapping materials and/or gifts to the event (see below). RSVP to Lauren at wie@osu.edu by November 19th. Our Adopt-a-Family's Wish List-- Please view the thank you letter recieved from the family here! Please donate new or unused items only, and do not wrap these items. Money will be accepted to buy any gifts which are not donated. Wrapping paper donations will also be accepted (so that the parents can wrap their own children's presents, as requested by the Adopt-a-Family program). 1. Male, 40 yrs old, would like Nascar items or a gift certificate to Sears or Lowe's for tools. 2. Female, 42 yrs old, would like angel items, a bathrobe (medium) and slippers (shoe size - 7), and gift certificates to Wal-Mart or Hallmark. 3. Male, 18 yrs old, would like clothes (shoe size-11, shirt size-large, and pant size-32X), skateboards and skating stuff, and gift certificates to Pacific Sunwear or other mall stores. 4. Male, 7 yrs old, would like action figures, GI Joes, K'nex, Legos, arts and crafts stuff, and other "boy stuff." 5. Female, 5 yrs old, would like Barbie stuff, Dora the Explorer stuff, and arts and crafts stuff. If you purchase a gift, please contact wie@osu.edu or come by our office in 122 Hitchcock Hall to let us know what item you have purchased. This will help us avoid buying duplicate items. You may send your form to Lauren Lecuru at 122 Hitchcock Hall, 2070 Neil Ave., Columbus OH 43210 or email them to wie@osu.edu.
